Highway Patrol Conducting Operation Slow Down (11/19/2008)
RALEIGH – Secretary Bryan Beatty, N.C. Department of Crime Control and Public Safety, and Colonel Walter J. Wilson, Jr., Commander of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, announced that beginning today, the N.C. State Highway Patrol and the Governor’s Highway Safety Program will conduct Operation Slow Down/No Need 2 Speed to catch speeders on North Carolina’s highways. Local law enforcement agencies will join troopers from now through Nov. 30 to encourage drivers to slow down and follow the speed limit.

RALEIGH – Gov. Mike Easley announced today the U.S. Department of Agriculture has granted his request to have 59 counties, including Brunswick County, designated as disaster areas due to crop losses caused by drought and extreme heat during 2008. North Carolina’s Injury and Illness Rate Drops to All-Time Low (11/19/2008)
North Carolina’s private industry workers have never been safer according to the annual nonfatal injury and illness figures released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the N.C. Department of Labor.
Injuries and illnesses in North Carolina dropped from a rate of 4.0 injured workers for every 100 full-time employees to 3.6 in 2007 for private industry employers.
