LELAND, N.C. -- Tropical Storm Hanna has moved through Brunswick County, out of North Carolina and is racing northward out of the Leland area’s weather picture.  Now, area residents and leaders have begun the clean-up in Hanna's wake.  While the storm did cause some minor damage, the area appears to have dodged a bullet.  No injuries or fatalities related to Hanna have been reported in...



Hanna speeds away from N.C.; Ike regains category four status     (9/6/2008)

As Tropical Storm Hanna races away from North Carolina, Hurricane Ike has regained strength and is once again a dangerous category four hurricane.  Ike is taking aim at the Bahamas and could impact Florida or the Gulf Coast.

 

At 5 p.m. Hanna was located near latitude 38.5 north, longitude 75.8 west or just east of Cambridge, Maryland.



Gov. Easley: Flooding from Tropical Storm Hanna still a danger     (9/6/2008)

RALEIGH – Gov. Mike Easley today warned citizens that flooding during the next couple of days remains a very real danger as Tropical Storm Hanna makes its way out of North Carolina.  He said it appears the state avoided any significant damage from the storm that brought 70 mile-per-hour winds and heavy rain to the eastern half of the state.

State reminds citizens to be safe when cleaning up storm debris     (9/6/2008)

RALEIGH – The N.C. Division of Forest Resources is encouraging people to be safe when using chainsaws to clean up debris after Tropical Storm Hanna.Gov. Mike Easley has declared a State of Emergency due to the approach of Tropical Storm Hanna this weekend and Hurricane Ike, which may affect the state next week. Hanna is expected to bring heavy rain and high winds that could fell trees and damage property. People should consider safety first when dealing with the damage that occurs after the storm. RALEIGH, N.C. -- Leland native Owen Spencer caught five passes for 82 yards in the N.C. State Wolfpack’s win over William & Mary tonight in Raleigh.  Spencer’s catches included a 22-yard reception from Harrison Beck late in the second quarter.

The Port of Wilmington and the Port of Morehead City to close in anticipation of Hanna     (9/4/2008)

WILMINGTON – The Port of Wilmington and the Port of Morehead City will close to commercial traffic at noon on Friday, Sept. 5 in preparation for Tropical Storm Hanna.  Gale force winds are forecast to arrive at Frying Pan Shoals at 2 p.m.  All nonessential Ports Authority employees will be sent home with a skeleton crew remaining on site for the duration of the storm.
